Message from the Board of Supervisors: Welcome to the Pend Oreille (Pond O'ray) Conservation District (POCD). We are a "grass roots" alliance of volunteer landowners, non-profit corporations, private businesses, scientific organizations, conservation and environmental agencies. Our activities and partnerships initiate or augment land and water management practices which conserve and renew natural resources in Pend Oreille County. We are one of nearly fifty conservation districts in the State of Washington working with private landowners to improve the renewable resources on their properties. Natural resource stewardship begins with individuals, on their own land. We offer cooperating landowners assistance in protecting, restoring, and enhancing these assets.
Behind most of our efforts, is our commitment to landowners to work diligently to strengthen our public presence by developing communication channels, broadening community involvement, expanding educational opportunities, and providing research and technical assistance. The development of this web site is an example of developing better communications with you. It is important we hear from you. Please let us know how we may better serve the needs of Pend Oreille County. We want to know what projects are of particular interest to you. We need to know if there are tracts of land suitable for our programs and projects. We also need to discover how we might help educate the hard working adults and youth in our county on ways to better manage and maintain their precious forests, fields, wildlife habitats, and water sources.
Our web site provides a wealth of information about our energetic organization and our current efforts to sustain and renew Nature's treasures in northeastern Washington. By browsing through our web site you will learn about our water quality improvement programs, restoration projects, and wildlife habitat improvement projects. You will also discover that our success depends on how well we work as a facilitator between you and involved agencies. Explore our grant-funded, cost-sharing, and education programs, which form an important part of our long-term approach to the wise use of natural resources. Contact Us Go to our Contact Us page and tell us how our organization might serve some special need on your land or assist a fellow landowner struggling and in need of an our assistance. Please feel free to leave comments or suggestions about our web site and web pages. How may we improve them? What other types of information or Internet links would better serve your needs? I hope you enjoy your time visiting POCD via the "Net". Please come visit our office and join us in our projects. On behalf of the board of supervisors and our staff, I extend a hearty welcome to the POCD web site.
